This year we will be using the Language Arts program called Wonders. It is a new program Granite School District has purchased so we will be using it all year. I am really excited about it. It looks to be a fantastic program that will follow the Common Core and it is mostly based online. Your Students will receive a lot of training on how it works and with it being a new program, i feel there will be some hiccups and confusion but we will be learning together to create a successful year. As i mentioned, the entire program from books to worksheets will be done and turned in online so if your student is absent please have them check the online program.
To log into this program the student will need to access their Granite Portal (where they look up their grades) using their student number as a username and the password they have set up. They will then click on the Wonders tile which will send them to their student portal. Here is a link to that student portal. https://portal.graniteschools.org/LoginPolicy.jsp Road to Success is the site the students will be using to track their Reading Minutes for the year. At the Beginning of the year, the students will be given login instructions and they are responsible to go in weekly to track those times. here is a link to the site. https://www.rtsutah.com/ This year in 6th grade we will be earning a College Level Degree (Associates, Bachelors, Masters, Doctorate) by completing each of the five requirements. The higher the degree you wish to earn the more work you will have to do. At the end of the year you will be attending your graduation where you will receive your diploma. Most the work will be done at school, so this should not be something that adds a lot of extra homework. It also allows me to coach and track their progress so I know where the students are. It is an incredible program for those who are struggling with math because they offer video helps, as well as those students who excellence because they can proceed on their own schedule and learn concepts from counting to calculus. We will be setting up accounts in the first few week of school. In order for parents to see their students progress, you will need to sign up for a free Khan Academy account and add your student. Utah Compose is the writing practice program the Utah State Office of Education has sponsored to help students improve their writing. There are many prompts and lessons that will help our students learn to become better writers. Each essay is automatically graded by the computer and will give your child feed back on the things they can improve. The best part of the program is that it allows the student to revise their work up to 30 times so they can get the best score possible. We will be using this program quite a bit throughout the year to help the student with their writing and typing skills on the computer because that is how the end of year tests will be taken. The sign-in for this site is the students sage I.D. number starting with 000.
